For consumers who feel that they need to learn basic living skills, Build Rehabilitation provides The
Independent Living Skills
Program (ILS program). The ILS program is designed to assist developmentally disabled adults in gaining the necessary skill to
live independently.
ILS counselors meet regularly with their clients to assist them with their daily living skills. Counselors train clients on a range of skills from mobility training to grocery shopping, and budgeting, to becoming more equipped for self advocacy, safe community travel, handling finances, setting of medical appointments, hygiene maintenance and living arrangements. Moreover, the ILS counselors assist their clients with their developing social skill as well as their ability to identify and make use of natural supports and community resources. The Build Rehabilitation ILS program also holds regularly scheduled self advocacy meetings, which are open to all Build Rehabilitation clients. The ILS program is also known for hosting fun and exciting extracurricular activities such as trips to baseball games at Dodger stadium and picnics. The ILS program assesses and admits clients over the age of 18, referred by an authorizing and/or referring agency, such as a Regional Center or the Department of Rehabilitation, and accommodates persons with, but not limited to, all of the following disabilities:
- Mental Retardation
- Learning Disabled
